Client Services Manager – Commercial Cleaning

When you ask Andrew Cini what values are important, he doesn’t hesitate.

“Family, work, honesty, pride… and making people happy,” he says. And these are values that he brings to his role as Client Services Manager every day at Facilities First.

“I look after several clients and I handle all of their facilities needs, primarily cleaning. I make sure that we complete every job to a quality standard and to scope, and above all that we’re keeping our clients happy.”

Among Andrew’s diverse clients are IKEA Tempe and NSW Health.

“NSW Health has been testing at times during COVID as you can imagine. When contract testing happens, we may suddenly get a call for extra cleaners who we need to organise very quickly. We also look after their head office so we help keep their team in a clean, and safe, environment.”

Andrew has an exceptional knowledge of safe work practices, something he draws from a very unique background.

“I spent 20 years working in safety and for many of those, I was a height safety technician, working as an abseiler. It was great in my 20s, ok in my 30s, but by your 40’s you really start to feel the heat in summer and cold in winter,” he laughs.

A friend introduced Andrew to abseiling many years ago when he was looking for a new career. “It sounded interesting, he helped me start out, and I never looked back.”

While hanging off a building for work may not be everyone’s cup of tea, Andrew particularly loved meeting and building relationships with his clients. “I got to see some incredible places and meet some incredible people, many who were quite well known. It was certainly interesting.”

Relationship building is a key focus for Andrews, and it’s both the team and client interaction that Andrew particularly enjoys at Facilities First – and which he says helps him do the best job possible for every customer.

“I pride myself in making people smile, and I believe that building positive relationships makes you a better manager. If you treat your cleaners and your clients well, if you get to really know them and build a good relationship, then no issue is ever a problem. When something comes up, you address it and you solve it.”

There’s another aspect of his role that Andrew also finds very rewarding.

“The company is very proactive in training and supporting our teams, and I really love helping our cleaners who are just starting out. We sometimes have people who just come to this country and this might be their first job. We can help them with training to really get started here. I’ve had former team members come up to me years later and thank me for the help and the training which they’ve used to build a career. It’s great to see, and great to be part of.”

Andrew’s number one priority will always be family – “I have a house full of girls – two great kids and a beautiful wife” – but he says the Facilities First team are also like family to him.

“I really enjoy working here. It’s a great company with really great people. And now we are with Serco, the possibilities are endless. It’s an exciting time.’
