In any given day April could be liaising with clients, dealing with equipment repairs, setting up new sites, invoicing or working with her team to ensure we are delivering the highest quality service for the schools in her portfolio. Whatever she is doing, April is always focused on her clients and delivering results that go above and beyond expectations.
“I’m very organised and I have a good memory. If something has come across my desk I’ll always remember to go back to it. I can get along with most people. I believe in teamwork and supporting each other. I want the Client Services Managers in my team to be the best they can in their role in order to provide the best service possible for their clients. A lot of my role is spent coaching and supporting my team. The results of that are really rewarding to see.”
April is so organised because she initially trained as a chartered accountant. But after she had kids she stepped back from that work and shifted into administration. While her kids were young she spent a lot of time volunteering at the school and on the P&C and also worked for many years at a dance school. She understood how schools worked… so when a role came up at Facilities First in the education sector, April jumped at the chance.
“Working in operations is much more interesting than accounting. When you work in accounting you are usually working on the same things every day. In operations there is always something different going on. No two days are the same. Working with schools is also really interesting. Schools have very high – but also very fair – expectations. I have implemented a number of systems and processes with my team that have positively impacted on the service we deliver for the schools in our region. I’m always looking for positive ways to make changes to enhance the work we do.”
April is driven by challenges and ticking achievements off her list. Everyday she sets herself a goal and works hard to achieve it. And being part of a supportive team makes that much easier.
The team here is really great. We work so well together – everyone supports each other. The culture is caring and friendly. The work we do is very busy and full on. It’s challenging but also very rewarding at the end of the day.”
Outside of work, April loves gardening, walking, catching up with friends and listening to music. Her kids are now adults so she is enjoying being back at work full-time.
