Early last month the NSW Office of Sport, in partnership with the Charlestown Netball Association, hosted the 2018 Koori Netball Tournament.

Now in it’s 19th year, the tournament is aimed at increasing participation of the Aboriginal community in Sport and Recreation in a fun and competitive environment.

Facilities First is committed to giving back to the communities in which we operate. We are particularly passionate about partnering with local business and community groups to support initiatives that promote health and wellbeing, including social and emotional wellbeing.

Having operated in the Newcastle community for more than 10 years, Facilities First was excited to have the opportunity to support the Awabakal United Eagles Mixed 12-15’s netball team in the 2018 Koori Netball Tournament.

Facilities First General Manager of People & Culture, says the tournament is a great initiative aimed at improving health outcomes for all age groups in the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community through sport.

“As an organisation, we are privileged to participate in initiatives that give back to the communities in which we operate. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to support Awabakal United in their goal to enter a mixed team in the 2018 Koori Netball Tournament. It was wonderful to attend the tournament on day 1 and see the pride and enthusiasm of the Awabakal United Eagles competing along with more than 300 other teams in this year’s event. It felt great to be part of the team and see them having so much fun.”

– Kerrie Howard, General Manager People & Culture

The funding received by Facilities First allowed the team to participate In the Tournament with the addition of new uniforms and active gear to support them on the day.

Eleanor McCall says the funding received by Facilities First was instrumental in giving the team the opportunity to participate in the tournament.

“On behalf of Awabakal United Eagles Mixed 12-15 year’s netball team, I would like to thank Facilities First Australia for sponsoring our netball team to be part of the 2018 Koori Netball Tournament.

Without your generous sponsorship this may not have been possible. Your support will open many new opportunities for these children, as well as help develop and improve their participation in sports.

The children had so much fun being part of a team and the tournament, they are already looking forward to next year’s event. Many thanks from Awabakal United Eagles”
