Senior Project Manager - AMC Maintenance

As a Senior Project Manager for AMC Maintenance, Chris looks after medium to high complexity projects in schools across the North Sydney region.

“Once the scope of work comes through from the client, we undertake pre-construction meetings onsite and we manage the job right through until completion.

I started as an apprentice plumber and worked my way up to becoming a tradesman and a team leader. I came into the office environment midway through my career as a tradesman. I’ve been in the industry for 25 years and have earned qualifications for being a supervisor.”

Chris has been with Facilities First since its inception, after previously working under NSW Public Works before Facilities First (formerly known as TJS) bought out the organisation.

Since then, Chris has enjoyed working as part of Facilities First and the supportive culture ingrained in the company. In particular, he loves seeing clients satisfied with his work and that puts a big smile on his face.

“We deliver projects to schools across the North Sydney region and it’s always so encouraging when you see that people are appreciative of what we do. I love being able to provide new buildings, new classrooms and new spaces where children can learn. It’s amazing seeing old infrastructure transformed into something new.

This is where my work feels really satisfying, and I love when clients enjoy the fruits of our labour.”

On top of that, Chris also loves the working environment at Facilities First.

“I really enjoy working in the building industry and with the teams at Facilities First. We work with subcontractors predominantly, and I enjoy the face-to-face communication with clients, contractors and end-users.

The team at Facilities First is just fantastic, and I love that everyone is very supportive, backing each other up. It’s a very good work culture to be part of.”

Chris also believes that care is at the forefront of everything that he does.

“At the end of the day, we’re doing high-risk work, so the care factor comes in by managing the health and safety of our staff onsite. We need to make sure that subcontractors are following procedures so they can go home safe to their loved ones at the end of the day.

We also really care about our staff, in terms of their mental health and wellbeing, and ensuring that care is at the forefront through our safety measures. We’re always making improvements so our staff are safe. I take accountability seriously, and that’s where my role comes in.”

Chris is also a firm believer in self-care and he finds rest and fulfilment by playing golf and spending time with his wife and kids.
