“My job is to ensure we provide a safe school environment for the students, staff and parents at schools in the North Sydney region. Sure, we may install air conditioning, lay carpet or resurface basketball courts… but all of that is about creating an optimum learning environment for the kids. Everything I do every day is about working towards that goal.”

Achieving good outcomes for his clients is what gets Darren out of bed in the morning. And he draws on his strong contractor management skills to make it happen.

“I know how to turn dials and which lever to pull to get the right outcome for our clients. Over more than a decade of working in facility services management, I have developed a very strong contractor management method. Combine that with my technical ability and my relationship building skills and that’s where the magic happens.

If a Client Services Manager needs help to resolve an issue or move a project forward, I’m the escalation point. And I love it. Ultimately, I’m a problem solver. I bring fresh eyes to look at how we can get the right outcome. Give me a challenge and I will find the best way to solve it.”

Darren genuinely cares about making a difference. It’s a huge part of the reason why he joined Facilities First.

“I have previously worked with some of the Facilities First senior leadership team – namely CEO Ben Bayot and General Manager – Government Asset Maintenance Contracts Michelle Delorenzo. I could see the work that was happening at Facilities First and I was really excited by it. I knew that the company would go places with such strong leaders at the helm. It was a really easy decision to take the role here. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of a company that is really going places?”

While he initially completed a trade qualification in shopfitting, Darren has spent the majority of his career working in the cleaning and facility management industry.

“I’ve worked as a Client Services Manager, managed portfolios of close to 250 sites as a facility manager and worked in the building industry in operations and general management roles. I’ve been able to work in some interesting businesses in quite complex and demanding roles.

All of that experience has prepared me for my current role at Facilities First. I can draw on the challenges I have encountered across my diverse experiences to find workable solutions for my clients. There is no challenge that we can’t overcome as a team.”

Darren is dedicated to his work. When he is at work, he is 100% focused on his clients. And when he needs to unwind and clear his head after a day at work, he hits the road on his motorbike. Outside of work you’ll also find him playing golf and spending time with his young family.
