Lisa has worked in the cleaning industry for more than 20 years. And it’s an industry she is so proud to be a part of.
“When I was re-entering the workforce after having my children, I got a cleaning job in an aged-care facility. Previously, I had worked in the Phillips factory making light globes, so it was quite a different career, but I loved it.
Even though I was only cleaning laundry, I was making a difference to life and quality of living for the residents. I loved walking around and talking to everyone who lived and worked there – it’s what kept me there for so long.”
Since that day when she found her way into a cleaning role, Lisa has come a long way in the industry. She has managed large teams and multiple sites in the commercial, health and education sectors. And now she is at Facilities First, continuing to make a difference and drive change throughout her team.
“I know it sounds cheesy, but I really like making a difference. I like helping people. It’s really important to me that if I’m going to do a job that I do it well. When COVID-19 hit, I was part of the team that created our COVID cleaning practices. It makes me really proud to see something through from beginning to end and to be able to say that I was part of it.
I really enjoy the training and mentoring part of what I do. But it is also very rewarding to know that I am making a difference to the schools we work with. I am always looking at ways to improve the work we deliver. I want everyone in my team to be very clear on their role and to have the training they need to do their job. When the contract is something we can be proud of as a team, it means the school has people who care and we have better communication. It’s a win/win for everyone.”
“The culture at Facilities First is one of the best I’ve ever worked in. I’ve worked in some really toxic workplaces, but what we have here is really cool. I love the culture and the people I work with.
My role is very diverse. I couldn’t be in a job where I do the same thing every day. I get out of bed because I love a challenge. I take the good with the bad and always say that a day is as long as it takes to succeed at what I need to do for the day.”
Lisa loves to read and watch movies. She doesn’t have a favourite genre – if it seems interesting, she will always give it a chance. And it’s that open-minded approach that makes Lisa so good at what she does!
