“This isn’t just a job for me. I want to make a difference. And at Facilities First I’m empowered to do that.”
Michelle has been a part of the Facilities First team for many years… and she has been in the industry for even longer. While she had a short stint away from the business, the pull to come back was strong.
“I’ve seen Facilities First transform over the last 10 years through mergers and acquisitions and new contracts.
But through it all they have retained their heart and genuine values. Of course, it’s about the bottom line and providing value to shareholders, but they are committed to making a difference on the ground. It’s very rewarding to be part of that.
After a couple of years away while I worked as a consultant, coming back to Facilities First was like coming back home to family, to something I love and I am very passionate about. More than just the job, it is exciting to be part of a company that is so focused on social procurement and providing employment opportunities to indigenous people and people with a disability.”
Michelle has a strong finance background as well as a great depth of experience in managing government contracts. She is very process driven and knows what it takes to deliver results. And a lot of that comes back to relationships – not just with her clients, but also her clients’ stakeholders.
More than that, Michelle is a team player. She sees the opportunity in the diverse skill set within her team to be able to work together and be very strategic about how they service their clients.
“In my team, everyone plays a part. Whether you are a Client Services Manager, work in accounts or man the helpdesk, every role is vital. The whole contract is a team effort. I’m a big believer in utilising people for their strengths. And when we work together in the way we do, our clients get the best outcomes.
I’m very hands on. I may have spent much of my career as a bean counter so I’m laser focused on outcomes. But people and relationships really matter to me.
I also like to get out on site and see all the work we do. When we install an air conditioning unit in a classroom or build a cola in a playground, we are actually creating better learning environments for kids. They spend so much time at school and we play a crucial role in ensuring that the environment is safe and comfortable.”
On the weekend, you’ll most likely find Michelle at the soccer field cheering on her sons from the sidelines. She loves to keep active with running, stand up paddleboarding or heading to the gym. She comes from an Italian background, so family – and food – also play an important role in her life. Michelle is an 80s tragic, so if you visit her in the office expect to hear some 80s tunes playing in the background.
