Nicholas (Nick) Narris is a Client Services Manager with Facilities First, delivering the maintenance needs of our education clients – and ensuring that we provide a safe and healthy learning environment for every student.
“I look after maintenance in schools across the Northern Sydney Region,” explains Nick. “My customer area covers Manly Cove to Forestville, and we deliver both new projects and call out requests including emergency repairs.”
Like several of our team members, Nick came to us with a diverse and intriguing background.
“I was previously an Avionics Engineer with Qantas, then an electrician for ten years. My managers brought me into the office in a scheduling and compliance role and when Facilities First took over our company around ten years ago, I came on board here.”
While avionics may seem far removed from facilities management and maintenance for the education sector, Nick sees common ground. “As an engineer you constantly need to come up with a solution, and see it through to delivery. I get a lot of joy and fulfillment from problem solving, helping fix client issues… and seeing a happy customer at the end.”
“It’s also one of the reasons I studied biomechanical engineering,” he adds. “I grew up around people with physical disabilities, and I wanted to incorporate robotics into prosthetics. The technology is fascinating, and I loved the idea of bringing technology into something that helps people everyday.”
It’s clear that in addition to helping people, Nick loves a challenge. When spending time with family and friends, he might be travelling, surfing, playing soccer or hiking – from Katoomba to Mt Kosciuszko, Sri Lanka or Japan.
“I definitely like challenging situations. I enjoy breaking down a problem, reverse engineering and working out what needs to be done to get the best solution.”
It’s an opinion shared by many of the Facilitis First team.
“There’s great camaraderie here,” says Nick. “People make businesses, and we’re a small team here that work well together. We really care about doing whatever we can to keep our clients happy.”
