Thank Your Cleaner Day 2020

Thank Your Cleaner Day is always an important date on our calendar. We thank our cleaners every day for the work they do, but it is in keeping with our culture of care that we take pause to really celebrate the incredible work our cleaners do.

Invisible heroes

2020 has been a year like no other. It has been the year that our invisible heroes have been catapulted into the spotlight.

“Cleaning is one of the most important industries in the world, yet the people performing this essential service are often invisible,” says Facilities First CEO, Ben Bayot.

“Our cleaners are the unsung heroes of many industries, making sure our workplaces, schools and premises are ready for action each and every day. And this year, more than ever, we’ve seen firsthand how absolutely vital cleaners are to the health and safety of our communities.”

Through the challenges of the year our cleaners have continued to show up and go above and beyond in their roles.

Thanking our cleaners

To celebrate Thank Your Cleaner Day 2020 we put out a call to our team and clients asking them to nominate their cleaners and colleagues for a job well done.

We were blown away by the response. We received hundreds of nominations from around Australia. Each and every nomination was worthy of praise and recognition.

Pramod Pandey works at Orana Mall in Dubbo. He was nominated by Client Services Manager, Janelle Goodlock, who said:

“Pramod goes above and beyond in his role as supervisor at Orana Mall, Dubbo. He always puts in 100%; no task is ever too big.

He always has a smile on his face and is the first one to help other team members, the client or members of the public.”

Client Services Manager Ana Matijevic was equally positive about the contribution of Diana Oliver, one of our cleaners at The Kings College in Wellard, Western Australia.

“We’ve certainly appreciated your ability to accommodate our changing needs through the ups and downs of COVID-19. Diana has been a tireless worker, keeping across the team and what’s needed day to day.”

Recognition from our clients

When Ben Bayot drew the winners for Thank Your Cleaner Day 2020, he commented that every one of the hundreds of cleaners nominated was a winner.

The truth is that our cleaners work tirelessly, day in and day out to get the job done. It’s a job that people are more likely to notice when it’s not done well. When there are overflowing bins or unclean surfaces, the absence of a cleaner is clear. When our cleaners do their job in the manner they do, they are often unseen. But not to us.

Nor would it seem they are unseen to our clients. Many of the nominations we received were actually from our clients calling out the work of our team. As a business that values care in everything we do, that so many of our clients took time out of their day to say thank you was highly rewarding.

One of those clients was Jo-ann Osborne, Assistant Principal at Arranounbai School. Jo-ann wrote a glowing nomination for cleaners Alex Jung, Vikasreddy Udumala and Raghuvaran Kottath.

“We would like to nominate our three wonderful cleaners.

Arranounbai is a special school for students with disabilities. Each cleaner has an amazing understanding of the difficulties our students encounter and they are always so caring, considerate, respectful and friendly.  They adhere to all our safety procedures, being careful to lock doors and avoid cleaning in specific areas at certain times to reduce some students’ anxiety.

We are all very comfortable with their presence in our school and consider them part of our community. They have a friendly smile and greeting whenever they acknowledge anyone and they work hard to keep our school clean and safe.”
