Tome is the Contract Manager for NSW’s government and education cleaning, specifically for the Northern Sydney region.
Tome has looked after a wealth of portfolios and industries, spanning across commercial high-rise buildings, industrial chemical plants, hospitality, aviation, universities, airports and mining.
“I’m a seasonal veteran; I’ve been in the industry for the last 20 years.”
Tome is grateful for all of the experiences and opportunities that he has come across in his career.
“My first cleaning job was working part-time in schools and from there it’s evolved. I started off in schools and government cleaning, and from there I was recognised, mentored and trained to move into a supervisor role that grew into a customer service manager role.
Throughout the years I’ve moved through different portfolios, being exposed to multiple contracts and always progressing.
I can relate everything that I’ve learned back to my cleaning experiences. It’s been a large learning curve for me, going through the system and learning different management styles.”
Tome loves the work culture at Facilities First and enjoys finding opportunities to make a positive difference both at work and with his clients.
“I love the culture that we have. I love the people that surround us and the professionalism that the company strives to achieve. Most of all, I really admire them for trying to make a difference to the industry.
What helps me get out of bed in the morning is that I’m really passionate about what I do. I want to make a change and see a difference in our organisation. I’m in a position where I can really make a difference and make people happy.
It’s thanks to the culture that the CEO has really ingrained into us. Everything he preaches and talks about, it’s keeping us in check for us to make sure that we are always on the right track. That makes a really big difference. It’s part of the joy of working for the organisation.”
As a Contract Manager, Tome takes his responsibilities seriously, but he also puts great care into everything that he does; from his staff to his clients.
“We display care in many different aspects. It’s shown to our staff, making sure we understand what they experience, what they need to do and the challenges they need to overcome on a daily basis to get the outcome completed.
It’s also important to show care to our clients and understand what they face and how we can better service and deliver on their needs. They need to feel like a valued client and we have a responsibility to deliver on a day in, day out service. We need to have that commitment with them 100% of the time.”
Tome believes it’s the small things that can help make a huge difference.
“It’s the little things like having the right equipment and tools, the right infrastructure or even enough hours for our staff to complete their jobs. We link that all together and that’s how we can display a caring attitude.
We’re not out here trying to make a quick buck and push our cleaners to oblivion and try to reach an unrealistic outcome. We’re there to help the cleaners and work with them to achieve an overall good standard of cleaning and customer satisfaction.”
Tome’s service and care are extended to his family, as he loves spending time with them. He’s also very passionate about motorsports such as MotoGP, Formula 1 and V8 Supercars. He also enjoys playing the drums. In his spare time, Tome loves looking for new innovations in technology.
“I want to be a leader and be at the forefront looking for technology, tools and systems that we can implement and give to our staff and our organisation.”
